After
creating a new case, adding index fields, and selecting your
scanner (LAW currently supports over 100 different scanners),
you are ready to begin scanning. LAW's main screen provides
immediate access and feedback for all scanning and indexing
operations. Scanner settings are visible in a status bar at
the bottom of the screen and can be easily changed. In addition
to standard scanner settings, LAW provides you with additional
scanning options to enhance productivity such as: automatic
page rotation, blank page dropout, auto-de skew, and automatic
document breaks (via bar code recognition).
Once you have captured a group of documents, you can use
LAW's quality control features to ensure your images match
the originals. LAW allows you to insert, replace, and delete
pages or entire documents. You can deskew a document after
scanning with optional line removal capabilities. LAW also
allows you to rotate individual or groups of pages in a
document that may have been scanned at the wrong orientation.
Image Processing
After a group of documents has been captured and deskewed,
they are ready to process. LAW allows you to number, add
a footer, OCR, and print documents, all in a single batch
process. You need only select a group of documents, check
which processes you would like to perform, and press Begin.
LAW's numbering feature allows you to perform page-level
numbering with an option to stamp the number directly on
the page. This feature can be used to stamp bar codes on
pages as well. Both the custom footer and numbering feature
allow you to control the font type and size for greater
flexibility.
Data Export
The final process involves converting your data (images
and index information) for use by the document management
application of your choice. LAW provides exports to all
of the popular litigation support packages, and many others.
Converting your data simply requires selecting the target
application, the documents you wish to convert, and the
index fields that you wish to export. You do not necessarily
have to export all coded fields, as you may wish to export
only a subset of the index. Some additional options allow
for the inclusion of OCR'ed text, and a target drive or
final destination of the images. When the conversion is
complete, you will have a directory on your destination
drive that is ready to be burned to CD. This directory will
contain the images and the file or files necessary for import
into your target application.
